stocubo: modular shelving that was actually thought through for records

Most furniture that ends up holding records was never built for records. A Kallax is a square grid that happens to fit an LP. stocubo is different: a modular shelving system made by hand in Berlin-Wedding, with a cube sized specifically for a 12-inch sleeve. We've spent time with their system while building Shelfify, and here's the short version of why it's a good match for a vinyl or CD collection.

Built around 31.5 centimetres

A 12-inch sleeve is roughly 31.5 by 31.5 centimetres. Too shallow and sleeves stick out and catch dust. Too tall and you waste space, or start stacking a second row on top, which bends sleeves. stocubo's cube is sized around the LP: deep enough for the sleeve, tall enough to flip through without a fight, and proportioned so a full compartment looks intentional instead of crammed.

One cube today, a whole wall eventually

Buy a fixed shelf, fill it, then hunt for a second one and a wall to put it on. With stocubo's modular cubes the logic flips: start small, add cubes as the collection grows, in whatever direction your room allows. Go wide, turn a corner, go up, leave a gap for the turntable. The shelf adapts to the space instead of the other way round.

It also holds up. stocubo builds each module by hand in their Berlin-Wedding workshop, from low-emission, PEFC-certified MDF, and plants a tree for every one they use. The tool-free clip system means you can take a wall apart and rebuild it in a new flat rather than throwing it out. For a collection that only gets heavier, that matters.

One system, whatever mix of records and life you have

The same cube scales from a single rolling unit to a full wall, and it doesn't need to be all records. Some setups are wall-to-wall vinyl, others mix in books, a turntable, plants, whatever else lives in the room.

Plan your stocubo setup inside Shelfify, even before it arrives

This is why we partnered with stocubo in the first place: their modules are built into the Shelfify planner at their real dimensions. Lay out cubes on screen, see how a full compartment sits, and get a feel for how your collection will spread across the wall. You can start this the day you order, while the shelf is still being made and shipped, and keep assigning records to compartments on the plan in the meantime.

When the shelf actually arrives, none of that planning goes to waste. Shelfify's move compartment feature reassigns an entire compartment's records to a new physical spot in one action, so moving from the plan on your screen to the real shelf on your wall doesn't mean re-entering a single record by hand.

Day to day, the same layout becomes the map you use to find things: search a record and Shelfify shows you the exact compartment. It also helps when you're DJing, build setlists for a gig, mark your favorite tracks, and pull the right records off the shelf in a flash without messing up your organization.
